Proactive Tips for Property Insurance Claim Prevention

What are steps to take to help prevent a property insurance claim

Though this may seem counterproductive to our business here at AJR Public Adjusters, we like to provide helpful information. If we can give suggestions to help you protect your property from an insurance claim, that is a plus for everyone involved. We don’t like to see people dealing with the stress of an insurance claim; even when AJR Public Adjusters is the front line to the insurance company, there is still stress on the property owner that we can never alleviate.

Preventing property insurance claims often involves proactive measures to mitigate risks and maintain the safety and security of your property. Here are some steps you can take to prepare and prevent property insurance claims:

  1. Regular Maintenance: Ensure that your property undergoes regular maintenance checks. This includes inspecting the structural integrity, electrical systems, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Fix any issues promptly to prevent them from escalating into larger problems.
  2. Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks to your property such as fire hazards, water damage, theft, or natural disasters. Take steps to mitigate these risks, such as installing smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, security cameras, and alarm systems.
  3. Weatherproofing: Weather-related damage can be a significant risk to your property. Weatherproof your property by sealing windows and doors, reinforcing roofs, and clearing gutters and drains regularly to prevent water damage.
  4. Security Measures: Implement security measures to protect your property from theft and vandalism. This may include installing security alarms, motion-sensor lights, sturdy locks, and security cameras.
  5. Insurance Coverage Review: Regularly review your insurance policy to ensure that you have adequate coverage for your property. Consider additional coverage options for specific risks that may not be included in your standard policy. If you have any questions, please reach out to AJR Public Adjusters at 602-795-5227. We can tell you what we suggest from a claim perspective.
  6. Documentation: Keep thorough records of your property, including photos, receipts, and documentation of valuable items. This will be helpful in the event of a claim, providing evidence of the property’s condition and the value of any lost or damaged items. AJR Public Adjusters uses this information to help document & price your claim for reimbursement.
  7. Emergency Preparedness Plan: Develop an emergency preparedness plan outlining procedures to follow during a disaster or emergency. Make sure all occupants of the property are familiar with the plan and know what to do in case of an emergency. If a claim should occur, your first call to AJR Public Adjusters will help begin the process. We will help you report the claim and get started immediately with our team to help mitigate your damages and secure an estimate to negotiate for settlement.
  8. Training and Education: Educate yourself and others who occupy the property about safety procedures and best practices for preventing accidents and injuries. This may include fire safety training, first aid training, and awareness of potential hazards.
  9. Regular Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of your property to identify any potential hazards or maintenance issues. Addressing problems early can help prevent them from causing more significant damage later on.
  10. Communication with Insurance Provider: Maintain open communication with your insurance provider. Inform them of any changes to your property or occupancy that may affect your insurance coverage.

By taking these proactive measures, you can help minimize the likelihood of property insurance claims and protect your property from damage or loss.

Even after taking the steps above, if your property suffers a property insurance claim, be sure to have AJR Public Adjusters, telephone number 602-795-5227, handy to call us first to let us help you report your claim and begin the recovery process.

Key Steps when Seeking Help from a Public Adjuster for Property Insurance Loss

When your property is damaged from a covered insurance claim, seeking help from a public adjuster for a property insurance loss involves a few key steps:

  1. Research and Selection: Start by researching reputable public adjusters in your area. A great place to start is the Better Business Bureau. These reviews are from actual clients of the business, unlike GOOGLE/YELP, where anyone can leave a review. Look for those with experience handling cases similar to yours and with positive reviews or recommendations from past clients.
  2. Initial Consultation: Contact the public adjusters you’re interested in and schedule an initial consultation. During this conversation, they’ll assess your situation, review your insurance policy, and discuss the fee structure and the services they offer.
  3. Documentation: Gather all relevant documentation related to your insurance claim, including your policy details, photographs or videos of the damage, estimates for repairs or replacements, and any correspondence with your insurance company. At AJR Public Adjusters, we will request this information after receiving your initial phone call. We then review and assess if our involvement will assist with your recovery. If we feel our assistance can further your claim in a positive direction while making it worth your time/money, we will set up a meeting to finalize our engagement.
  4. Engagement: If you decide to proceed, you must sign a contract outlining the terms of the agreement, including the fee arrangement. Make sure you understand all aspects of the contract before signing.
  5. Claim Handling: Once engaged, the public adjuster will handle the entire claims process on your behalf. This includes preparing and submitting the claim, negotiating with the insurance company, and advocating for your best interests to ensure you receive fair compensation for your loss.
  6. Communication: Stay in regular communication with your public adjuster throughout the process. They should keep you updated on the progress of your claim and any developments that arise. At AJR, we pride ourselves on our constant communication with our clients. Always available to answer questions and provide current information regarding the claim. We have actually had clients in the past requesting less communication; after seeing the thorough job AJR provides, they didn’t want to know every small detail, just wanting to be involved in the large decisions and reap the benefits of our engagement with the final settlement.
  7. Resolution: The goal is to reach a favorable resolution to your claim.

Remember, it’s essential to choose a reputable and experienced public adjuster who will work diligently to maximize your insurance claim settlement while minimizing your stress and hassle during the process.

AJR Public Adjusters have the experience of representing clients for over 35 years. With your next claim, give us a call first to speak with us personally about your claim.

We look forwad to hearing from you.

About AJR Public Adjusters LLC

Bruce and Stacy relocated to Phoenix, AZ from Charleston, SC in 2013 to establish AJR Public Adjusters, LLC After a successful nine years in the Low Country of South Carolina, a decision was made to venture out west and re-establish the company with a new name that more closely describes the services provided.

Bruce has more than a quarter of a century of experience and is highly qualified to lead his clients through the maze of confusion in the insurance industry.

Bruce was born into a family of public adjusters and joined the family business full time right after college. Bruce was a principal at this firm which is one of the largest and oldest “90 years” public adjusting firms in the tristate area that employs over 30 public adjusters.  Bruce’s knowledge and experience are unmatched in the Valley.

After working 17 years in the family business, Bruce wanted to be able to provide personal, attentive service to the clients he was servicing. Bruce and Stacy relocated to Charleston, SC, from Philadelphia, PA in 2005 and established AJR Insurance Consultants, LLC.

Prior to establishing AJR, Stacy had a successful career in sales for Aetna/US Healthcare in the Philadelphia region, The Embassy Row Hotel in Washington DC, Western Union in the Northern New Jersey Region and PTS Learning Systems; computer training materials in Philadelphia. Her experience exposed her to the insurance, hotel, management, healthcare, telecommunications and information technology industries. It is with this broad experience in the business world that Stacy oversees the marketing and administrative duties at AJR.

Bruce is certified and licensed in Arizona and is a member of the National Association of Public Insurance Adjusters (NAPIA) and adheres to a strict code of ethics. Bruce keeps up on current insurance regulations by constantly completing insurance education courses.

AJR works on behalf of homeowners and business owners to ensure that once damage has occurred, the property owner takes full advantage of all aspects of his/her insurance policy.

You’ve suffered a property insurance loss, do you know what your insurance policy really covers?

Homeowners purchase home insurance to protect their homes and personal property.

After an insurance loss is not the time, you want to learn that it will not cover everything you have lost in your claim.

The article attached here explains a little further and discusses some common misunderstandings regarding insurance

https://www.nuco.com/fcs/2021/09/13/understanding-insurance-and-why-it-doesnt-cover-everything/?cmp_share

TakeAways

  1. Insurance is a for-profit industry providing services to those who buy a policy.
  2. Insurance does not pay for maintenance issues.
  3. Insureds sometimes look at cost and don’t look at coverage.
  4. Some agents take the easy way out and tell insureds they are covered for most catastrophic losses without providing details.
  5. Insureds may not understand that their policy is not a replacement cost policy and only covers actual cash value. — this comes into play when settlement is determined.

This confusion reiterates the need for a licensed Public Adjuster to represent your interests from start to finish with your claim.

We are your A+ rated Better Business Bureau Public Insurance Adjuster here in Phoenix, Arizona, representing clients all over State 48.

Microwaving Face Masks — FIRE HAZARD

In this new Coronavirus existence, everyone is scrambling to protect themselves in any way possible. Without accurate information, people may be making a severe error trying to “clean” their face masks. Some posts have gone viral recommending microwaving cloth face coverings in plastic bags for “2 to 3 minutes” for a good cleaning.

Here is a Reuters article declaring a True Claim, which states face masks do catch fire if we microwave them.

The CDC does recommend using cloth face coverings to help slow the spread of Coronavirus. Recommendations for the proper use and care from the CDC are here.

AJR takes our responsibility seriously and felt it was essential to highlight additional fire dangers we recently learned. We hope everyone stays safe and out of danger. Please heed suggestions from the experts in all areas, especially no microwaving face coverings.

Should the need arise, AJR does have the ability to teleconference using the zoom technology.

January 2020 and AJR has a new 5 STAR BBB Review

AJR has jumped out of the box in 2020 with a new 5 STAR Better Business Bureau Review. We couldn’t be more proud to share with you the constructive feedback Monica has shared with the BBB.

“But, after interviewing several companies, we decided to hire Bruce and Stacy at AJR Public Adjusters to help settle our fire/property claim with the insurance company. It was the best decision we could have made!”

Lower percentage is not always better

Many times prospective clients question our commission charge.

Insureds wonder if they can lower the percentage will they make out better.  We wanted to demonstrate that this may not always be the case.

As they say, you get what you pay for.

See example of a typical claim below and notice the difference to the policyholder when paying a higher percentage fee:

Company A

Initial Claim Offering                     $50,000

Final Claim Result.                          $60,000

8% fee to Public Adjuster:             $  4,800

Claim Settlement to Insured:    $55,200

AJR PUBLIC ADJUSTERS

Initial Claim Offering:                    $50,000

Final Claim:                                      $75,000

15% Fee:                                            $11,250

Claim Settlement to Insured:    $63,750

Clearly you can see how AJR Public Adjusters assistance, perhaps at a higher fee still nets the insured a better settlement.  This policyholder increased their settlement by $8,550 even when paying a higher percentage for our services.

By giving AJR the opportunity to utilize our 30+ years experience to manage and negotiate your claim, you can rest assured you will do better in the settlement process of your claim.

Please view our Better Business Bureau A+ rating here.  This may provide helpful information for you to see how AJR should be your first call with your next property insurance claim.

Call AJR first, we even help report the claim and can take over the stress of managing your claim from there.  We can be reached at 602-795-5227, email here.

Another 5 STAR Better Business Bureau Review

AJR is honored to receive another 5 STAR Better Business Bureau Review. We feel fortunate when clients can locate us and put us to work as their advocate.

As LG says,On my own, I was offered $2,000 to complete the repairs (which was honestly insulting and almost bordered on criminal) but when AJR stepped in, they were able to increase the final settlement amount of my claim from $2,000 to $162,000. Yes, you read that, right!”

Better Business Bureau Review

To secure an 8,000% increase doesn’t happen every day, but we work our hardest to ensure we represent our clients with the utmost professionalism and tenacity.

With your next insurance claim call AJR first.  Let us review your situation and let you know how we might help.
